STUDENT RECITAL GUIDELINES | | TEACHERS: Please communicate the applicable information to the students and parents in your Studio when preparing for a recital. RECOMMENDED RECITAL PROCEDURES - Each teacher may use up to eight (8) minutes performance time for his/her students in Levell and above in each recital.
- Teachers will use the prescribed recital form to submit entries to the Recital Chair by Monday prior to the recital date, or entries may be emailed
to the chair. - Fee(s) of $7.00 for each entry payable to MTOD must be included with application and paid prior to performance.
- Refunds shall be made only if a cancellation is made prior to the printing of the program.
- Recitals will be maximum of one hour in length. Entries will be honored in the order received. Late applications will have priority in the next recital. Recitals with fewer than ten (10) entries will not be held.
- Students who have studied with the MTOD teacher for six (6) months or longer may perform in chapter recitals.
- The following professional guidelines reflect the professional standards as set by the Executive Board of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers:
- A performance should reflect the understanding of the music with regard to the style of the period, articulation, phrasing, use of pedal (if applicable), accuracy of pitch and rhythm.
- Solo performance may be by memory (exceptions are avantgarde music and ensemble performance), or at the discretion of the teacher, music may be used. Photocopies are illegal and not acceptable.
- Only original music is allowed for piano students. Transcriptions and arrangements are allowed for other instruments. No pop music, which is on the Jazz, Blues, Rag, & Pops recital only.
- Dress code for performers and teachers:
- Shoes which allow proper control of the pedal (no platforms, sneakers or flip-flops)
- Hair neatly groomed and worn away from the face
- Boys -slacks and collared shirts (no shorts or jeans)
- Girls -nice dresses, skirts or dressy pants and no distracting jewelry on hands or arms
- Women -dresses, suits, skirts or pants suits
- Men -suits or slacks and collared shirts
- Students are to arrive a minimum of ten (10) minutes before the recital begins: notify the chairperson they have arrived and receive instructions as to where they are to be seated.
- Photographs may be taken prior to or following the recital; never during a performance, excepting cam recorders which are discreetly placed.
- Parents and invited guests with small children are responsible for their behavior. Families are expected to stay for the entire recital.
- Students and other family members are not to play on the pianos in the Prosser showroom, except under the supervision of the staff.
- Pagers and cell phones are to be turned off during performances.
- Teachers may recommend students attend other MTOD recitals and concerts appropriate for the students.
