HISTORY
In memory of Robert Hennekes (1930-2004), the Music Teachers of the Desert has established a biennial awards competition beginning in May of 2006. Hennekes served MTOD in many offices including several terms as president. In addition he was treasurer for the California Association of Professional Music Teachers. At the time of his passing, Aart Hennekes, his partner of 42 years, generously and thoughtfully initiated the funding for a continuing awards program to benefit qualified music students.
PURPOSE
To provide substantial monetary awards to motivate, encourage and reward students who display outstanding musical ability and a desire to achieve.
REQUIREMENTS
Applications are limited to students of members of the Music Teachers of the Desert. Applications are submitted to the MTOD Awards Chair on the prescribed application form accompanied by a $10.00 application fee.
Applicants must perform by memory a minimum of two (2) solo pieces of contrasting styles and periods. Performance must not exceed time requirements. Music with numbered measures must be supplied for the judges. NO duplicated copies are allowed. Applicants will supply their own accompanist, if required. Accompanist must be someone other than the teacher.
No changes in repertoire or scheduling will be allowed after an application is submitted.
Time for audition of ALL instrumental students will be UP TO a MAXIMUM of 15 MINUTES. Age categories: 7 and 8 9 and 10 11 and 12 13 and 14 15 and 16 17 and 18
Time for all VOICE students will be UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 12 MINUTES Age categories: 10 through 14 16 through 18
